Senior Mechanical Engineer
Position: Permanent or Contract to Perm
Location: Metairie, LA
Researches, develops engineers and designs a variety of equipment, components, products and systems for the offshore, upstream production facilities, for petrochemical and industrial purposes Has comprehensive understanding of principles, theories, concepts, and industry practices and standards and their application. Responsible for performing calculations and designs within assignments. Works under minimal supervision and all work is reviewed for adequacy on completion. May provide some technical guidance to less experienced design and engineering personnel. Recognized Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or University required, 6 - 9 years of experience within engineering companies for oil and gas production (upstream) facilities. Experience with process piping systems and/or related specifications is also required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform job responsibilities as Senior Engineer, leading discipline on small projects or assigned under the direction of the Lead Mechanical Engineer and/or Project Engineer for larger projects
- Required to perform short duration travel to Client's offshore platforms to perform reviews of existing or new equipment and piping installations. Requires abilities to take helicopter training (HUET), obtain a TWIC per the federal Maritime Transportation Security Act and comply with Client program (preparation and vaccines).
- Direct Piping Design personnel assigned to the project team
- Ensure adherence to client and/or company specifications, governing codes and standards, and good engineering practice
- Ensure adherence to client and/or company health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) requirements as well as state and federal regulations
- Coordinate and participate in the development of mechanical engineering effort-hour estimates for proposed projects
- Monitor the schedule, ensure that project objectives are met, monitor project controls and engineering execution within the approved budget
- Responsible for reporting on engineering, design and equipment development status to the Lead Mechanical Engineer and performing monthly or bi-weekly assessments of progress
- Participate and contribute advanced level development of all phases of project engineering, including FEED, detail design and construction support
- Experience in development of upstream production facility drawings, checking process equipment system designs and participation in hazard reviews performed to API
- Develop the technical content of offshore production equipment calculations, specifications and data sheets for inquiry and purchase. Ensure these documents are appropriately reviewed, approved, and transmitted
- Has direct communication with equipment manufacturers and works clarifications to resolution
- Coordinate and incorporate client requirements and standards
- Develop Mechanical Work Plans for the fabrication, construction and offshore installation scopes of projects
- Initiate PDNs (Project Deviation Notices) that impact the mechanical specifications, effort-hour budget and/or schedule
- Coordinate and cooperate with the Engineers of other disciplines to ensure the smooth flow of all information, and to ensure alignment with project requirements and design basis
- Coordination with Worley Global Integrated Delivery (GID) counterparts to complete deliverables
- Participate in status meetings with the mechanical team to discuss project issues, coordinate/plan key milestone efforts, etc.
- Responsible for obtaining cost related information and developing scope of work documents for project estimates (e.g., TIC estimates)
- Knowledge of ASME Pressure Vessel Code, API Tank Code, Heat Transfer Codes or Pump API codes. Capable of performing relevant calculations.
Qualifications:
- Recognized Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or University
- 8+ years of overall experience on capital projects from feasibility through construction
- 6+ years of applications engineering experience, and 4+ years lead role or related experience with engineering design of oil and gas production (upstream) facilities, piping systems, equipment specifications and safety systems (API 14C)
- Familiarity with various project phases and the scope/deliverables required
- Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, OneNote) preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required
- Registered or in process to obtain Professional Engineering license preferred
- Ability to train and travel to onshore or offshore facilities preferred
