Purchaser (Steel & Hardware)

Permanent Position

  • Plan and execute the material planning, purchasing, and expediting associated with materials in support of project & plant operations and/or goods in support of office operations
  • Create/Issue RFx with Suppliers, receive their quotes, review commercial aspects of the quotes, coordinate technical evaluation with other stakeholders, and negotiate cost savings, and delivery dates according to project requirements
  • Obtain necessary reviews and approvals of bidder exceptions, bid evaluations, recommendations, Purchase Orders, and change orders prior to execution
  • Administer assigned Purchase Orders, including change order processing, invoice processing and verification, and performance evaluation, ensuring supplier compliance in a cost-effective, timely, and responsive manner
  • Interacting with project management staff to monitor revisions and amendments
  • Maintains direct working relationships with Project Management, Planning, Finance, and Operations personnel to ensure that Purchase Orders are issued and processed as required
  • Escalate complex functional/technical issues in a timely and proactive manner, to the Procurement Director or Project Manager if applicable
  • Participate in feedback sessions with Project, Planning, and Operations personnel by providing procurement aspects, and ramifications/issues affecting the project, if any
  • Build relationships with suppliers and industry representatives and sourcing new suppliers
  • Assist with vendor audits
  • Working closely with the Project Management, Planning, and Operations teams to ensure deliveries meet production and project deadlines

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing
  • SCMP designation with the Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) or equivalent preferred
  • Team player, willingness to learn
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Proactive in finding solutions to roadblocks
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Steel and hardware buying experience is an asset
  • Experience using an ERP system to determine requirements, and create and manage purchases orders is required
