Process Engineer

Position: Contract- 6-12 months

Location: Shelby, NC

Our client is currently recruiting for a Process Engineer to be seconded to a client’s chemical refinery plant to help with the optimization of batch polymerization processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, develop, and implement projects and programs to improve profitability, reliability, quality, safety and reduce variability
  • Perform process engineering for the development and optimization of new and existing equipment and systems using knowledge and application of chemical engineering fundamentals
  • Design and optimize production processes such as batch to batch optimization and process capability studies
  • Monitor the status of projects you’ve developed and drive them to completion, including scope development
  • Ensure that process engineering for each project assigned is completed in a timely and efficient manner which meets the needs of the capital project
  • Report status of the tasks regularly to Process Engineering Manager and project engineers
  • Assist in the continual improvement of the process engineering processes
  • Co-ordinate with project managers to understand scope and schedule for all tasks and prioritize these as needed to complete each on time
  • Prepare PFD’s and P&ID’s
  • Prepare process data for line lists
  • Perform hydraulic calculations
  • Prepare relieving device data and perform relief calculations
  • Prepare process equipment, instrument, and relieving device data sheets

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 3-5 years process engineering experience in chemical manufacturing, preferably in a batch polymerization process
  • At least one year spent working directly at the chemical plant site
  • Strong technical engineering skills; including knowledge of process safety engineering (PHAs, MOC, and safety systems interlock)
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail conscious with the ability to work with confidential information.
  • Highly organized, ability to work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple project tasks simultaneously
  • Effective communication skills with ability to communicate internally and externally with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong computer skills – Excel, SAP, PI Process Book

· Desired, but not a must Six Sigma Green Belt
