Principal Process Engineer

Principle Process Engineer required for my large EPC client in Edmonton. Reporting to the Chief Process Engineer, the Principal Process Engineer supports the Project Manager/Engineer in process design front-end studies, proposals and process optimization.

Responsibilities:

  • Completing conceptual and detailed process engineering design of new or revamp/additions to existing facilities
  • Carrying out calculations, designs, cost estimates, Heat and Material Balances (H&MB), and process simulations
  • Providing process specifications for equipment
  • Creating, reviewing and revising PFDs, P&IDs, layout and line lists, complete and review data sheets
  • Developing the design basis and report writing such as equipment surveys, cost estimates, and process studies
  • Providing technical support to more other Process Engineers
  • Reviewing and signing off on calculations completed by others
  • May be required to select assigned personnel for certain tasks
  • Finding and applying relevant standards, regulations, codes and guidelines applicable for task, identify areas of deviation or concern
  • Responsible for working within and following company work procedures, Quality Assurance guidelines, Safety regulations and specific job guidelines
  • Ensuring and maintaining the quality of process engineering work within the project.
  • Stamping of engineering documents

Technical experience:

  • Demonstrated EPC experience, including leadership in mentoring junior/intermediate staff
  • Minimum of 10 years in the Canadian industry
  • Strong communicator working up front with our customers
  • Both front end/conceptual design experience and detailed design experience
  • Must have demonstrated Design Basis Development, Process Deliverable Production (PFD, P&IDs, LDTs), Process Calculations (PSVs and Hydraulics), and the ability to specify process instrumentation & equipment, various types and configurations, including benefits/shortfalls to a certain application
  • Should also have a good understanding of Process Safety in Design and experience in Risk Assessments
  • Knowledge of applicable codes: API 520/521, ASME B31 & Section VIII, ABSA AB525 & OPPSD
  • Process Modeling Software (HYSYS, ProII)
  • Hydraulic & Flare Modeling Software (AFT, Flare System Analyzer, Visual Flare)
  • Exchanger Modelling (EDR, HTRI)
  • Must have experience in downstream facility designs and plant operations including but not limited to refinery, upgrader, and petrochemical

Education / Qualifications:

The position requires an APEGA PEng with a bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
