Energy Resourcing are recruiting for a Principal Instrument Engineer for a permanent position for one of our EPC&C clients based in Darlington, who specialize in providing engineering services in the hydrocarbon, petrochemical and energy industries on a number of global projects.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all aspects of the design and engineering works are carried out in a diligent and professional manner
  • Liaise with other discipline designers to ensure all interfaces are adequately covered
  • Production, checking and approval of reports and specifications
  • Checking and approving drawings, schedules and MTOs
  • Production, checking and approval of design calculations
  • Production, checking and approval of data sheets, design documents and raising of requisitions
  • Checking and approval for instrumentation, control systems and vendor package equipment to ensure compliance with the company and project specifications
  • Acting as a Lead Instrumentation and Control Engineer associated with both company enquiries / tenders and EPC projects
  • Production of CTRs and associated MTOs for projects and enquiry / tendering work in conjunction with the Proposals department
  • Instrument Project Management Consultancy (PMC) work, including checking, commenting and advising clients on all instrumentation and control technical matters
  • Production of Safety Integrity Level (SIL) calculations as required, ready for checking/verification by a third party independent specialist
  • Attendance at HAZOP, HAZID & SIL reviews and implementation of actions generated from these reviews
  • Abide by Company policies and procedures

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties which are requested by management

Skills & Qualifications

  • Extensive experience as Senior/Lead/Principal Instrument Engineer within the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Industries

  • Degree or equivalent in Instrumentation and Control Engineering, including membership of applicable engineering institute (MIET) Chartered Engineer

  • Experience of guiding a team of engineers/designers and setting work priorities in line with project requirements

  • Extensive experience of codes, standards and accepted working practices with respect to Instrument engineering in the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Industries

  • Extensive knowledge of established Instrument engineering, within the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Industries, including Hazardous Areas (ATEX)

  • Ability to read, understand and develop P&IDs into Instrumentation designs

  • Experience working with overseas clients and external design houses

  • Extensive knowledge of Instrument Design in accordance with both European and North American codes and standards

  • Extensive knowledge of Safety Integrity Level (SIL) design techniques and Safety requirements as defined within codes IEC 61508 and IEC 61511

  • Cryogenic materials handling and storage

  • Experience within the Petrochemical, LNG and Cryogenic industries

  • Experience with SmartPlant
