Plant Engineer 21-032

We are currently representing a nuclear power generation client seeking a Plant Engineer 21-032.

Job Overview

Plan, coordinate and conduct electrical engineering assessments, studies, inspections, investigations, designs, and evaluations for generators, power systems transformers, control associated with hydroelectric generating stations and associated infrastructure

Preparation of drawings, technical specifications, construction estimates, request for proposals, proposal evaluation, award, contract negotiations & administration & co-ordination, construction monitoring, resolution of contract disputes

Provide input to business plans, work plans, budgets with respect to project priorities, schedules and resource requirements

Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and government agencies as required
As a technical expert in electrical engineering provide advice, guidance, consultation and services to engineering problems including:

  • Motor/Pump Controls
  • Feeders, distribution and services
  • Hoists and lifting equipment
  • Other Electrical engineering matters related to projects and maintenance
  • Electrical and Protection & Control engineering matters related to projects and Operations

As a technical expert in electrical engineering provide advice, guidance, consultation and services to engineering problems including:

  • Power Equipment
  • Respond to emergencies, equipment failure, unsatisfactory equipment performance, conduct field investigations, prepare reports, and recommend actions
  • Develop plans, standards and technical procedures for inspection, maintenance and monitoring programs
  • Serve on study, project teams or task groups
  • Investigation of safety or technical incidents


  • 4 year University Degree in Electrical Engineering or Applied Science at minimum
  • Unrestricted P. Eng. certification in good standing in the Province of Ontario is required
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of equipment/systems related experience as an Electrical Engineer
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License in good standing
  • Experience working in a Hydroelectric Generating Facility is preferred
  • Experience working in an Industrial Power Systems or Utilities organization
  • Knowledge of OPG systems and plants is considered an asset
  • Hands-on experience AutoCAD is preferred
  • Experience with planning and conducting assessments, studies, inspections, investigations, designing, evaluating, construction monitoring & maintenance of electrical works associated with hydroelectric and thermal generating stations
  • Ability to Independently problem solve with methods and tools required for electrical engineering applications
  • Experience with Protection and Controls
  • Software experience associated with electrical engineering, monitoring and instrumentation; Power System Software, SCADA, Data Historians
  • Experience in analysis in electrical testing results
  • Report preparation, and strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with people
  • A results oriented, efficient & value oriented focus, excellent verbal and written communicator, with high integrity to uphold company values including H&S, and protection of the environment
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, there likely will not be that much travel required.
  • The Plant Engineer will provide technical support for stations that are a 4 hour drive to the east, and 7 hour drive to west from the site in Thunder Bay
  • Experience in a Hydro/Thermal plant is an asset
