Mechanical Designer New Graduate
Position: Permanent
Location: Houston , Texas
Our client is seeking a Mechanical Designer New Graduate who will reporting to Director, Technical . The Designer will complete utility and/or communication structural designs and drawings utilizing composite poles, as well as custom drill drawings for the same type of structures. This position is a growth position and will work remotely in a home office environment until the new facility is built .
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creation of structural drawings based on customer standards or instructions from the Product Engineering staff for utility and communication applications that employ the composite poles using SolidWorks 3D CAD software and satisfying the poles hardware application requirements
- Creation of custom fabrication drawings based on customer requirements for utility and communication applications employing composite poles using SolidWorks 3D CAD software and satisfying the poles hardware application requirements
- Design of new hardware where nothing suitable is commercially available that is compatible with the composite poles. This may include the evaluation of the design using various FEA tools and recommendation of lab tests to validate the performance using applicable industry standards
- Design of new ancillary devices that support the transport, assembly, installation, or disassembly of the composite poles
- Maintain and organize drawing files and ensure timely and reliable access to sales and operations staff when required
- Work with PDM database to organize and archive/control file revisions
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Technical Diploma specializing in mechanical engineering/design technology and computer integrated design
- Minimum one to three years' experience
- Thorough knowledge and experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD software including revision and workflow control with SolidWorks PDM Professional
- Ability to solve problems, propose conceptual solutions, and characterize/quantify potential risks effectively and creatively
- Practical experience applying and using finite element analysis tools in terms of predicting mechanical behavior
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work well in cross-functional teams
- Ability to interface with key customer technical contacts to successfully complete structural and custom fabrication drawings and develop new hardware components
- Possess a proactive work style with the proven ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines while maintaining a commitment to a high level of accuracy and quality in all aspects of work
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work from home/office environment in Houston until plant facility is open
- Occasional field trips to support installations
