Maintenance Superintendent

Our client is seeking a full-time permanent opportunity for a Maintenance Superintendent for their Calgary Plant Operations and reporting directly to the Calgary Plant Manager and Assistant Manager.


* Supervise maintenance staff with respect to repairs, scheduling/planning and department operations
* Oversee full scope of routine preventative maintenance (PMs) programs, utilization of their (CMMS) JD Edwards
* Coordinate with plant departments in the purchase, scheduling, repair and installation activities for site equipment
* Examine reasons for equipment failures and perform key focus analysis to direct repairs
* Work closely with the Purchasing Team, external contractors or third-party tradespeople for delivery of special projects
* Solves problems involving workflows, utilization of personnel skills, systems and facility to ensure efficient and expedient maintenance process
* Collaborate with the Purchasing Department to establish inventory requirements
* Work with Operations to ensure systems are operating efficiently to maximize assets
* Ensure maintenance activities and personnel are operating within legal and regulatory compliance requirements
* Administration and record keeping of required documents related to municipal, provincial and national governance
* Participate in annual budget process for major expenditures and submission of purchasing requisitions

People Management

* Recruit, hire, train and manage the shift schedules for direct reports
* Active performance management of staff including performance reviews and implementing improvement plans for under performing team members
* Coordinate people and training development in conjunction with other Division Management
* Manage payroll time-keeping records within payroll software system
* Ensure employees and operations are conducted safely and responsibly


* Minimum 5 to 10 years of leadership experience in a ticketed trade role, or similar environment required
* Possession of a valid Trade Technician Certificate or an interprovincial Red Seal Certification preferred
* Strong proficiency in Maintenance Planning Software, Enterprise Resource Planning Systems, Microsoft Office and Payroll Systems required
* Technical or mechanical engineering background or relevant post-secondary education a strong asset
* Excellent communication skills (written and oral), people skills
* Strong proven ability to motivate, coach and develop team members
* The roles require fitness to the extent that the incumbent must be able to access all parts of the plant at any given time including: heights, ladders, multiple levels of stairs and rooftops. Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis is required in addition to being comfortable with a manufacturing environment consisting of exposure to animal by-products, odours and cold weather
