Finance Manager

Position: Contract and/or Permanent

Location: Houston, TX

Our client is currently recruiting for a hands-on Financial Manager who will be providing financial analysis and advice on Joint Venture results. This person will be responsible for reporting to Joint Venture Steering Committee and Joint Venture Partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides financial leadership for the Joint Venture as a key member of the Project and Joint Venture; responsible for providing financial advice and commercial support; actively participates in Project Management to support and deliver strategic objectives
  • Provides financial input regarding labour costs, overheads and other projects costs for all material bids and tenders, and advice regarding appropriate contractual commercial terms and conditions, including FX, tax and credit implications where applicable, seeking support from Regional Treasury, Credit and Tax as required
  • Works closely with Project team and participates in monthly project review to challenge the financial and commercial health of projects
  • Coordinates and provides oversight of client audit of rates and costs in accordance with client agreement. Ensures in turn that JV partners are paid timely.
  • Undertakes ad hoc reporting and participates in special projects as required
  • Prepares, reviews and analyses monthly joint venture financial results, including key performance indicators and trends, comparison of budget/outlook/forecast to actual for distribution to Project Director and Joint Venture partners
  • Ensures accuracy and consistency in application of Accounting Policy and Standards
  • Leads budget and forecast preparation for the Joint venture and provides information supporting long range planning activities
  • Monitors and manages overheads compared to budget and forecast
  • Overall project accounting responsibility for all projects, with particular emphasis on ensuring that correct revenue and profit recognition policies are applied
  • Responsible for the source ERP data for management reporting. Ensure monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and transactional activities such as AP, AR are performed.
  • Works closely with the regional Tax Manager to ensure full compliance with all relevant tax laws
  • Direct the project invoicing function and ensure timely and accurate billings; Responsible for the financial management of all costs received from subcontractors ensuring they can be billed to the client in a timely manner.
  • Drives best in class cash management around DSO and WIP (collections efficiency and invoicing efficiency)
  • Stewards ongoing cash forecasting; upholds strong, visible credit risk management in the joint venture
  • Reporting back to Joint Venture partners around cashflow forecast, including cash on hand, timing for partner invoices to be paid, and supporting Joint Venture Steering committee for quarterly dividend recommendations.
  • Identifies and contributes to the ongoing development of systems and processes to enhance reporting and planning capabilities, including implementation of more frequent forecasting capability and delivery of deeper information for decision support
  • Identifies cost reduction opportunities in the joint venture guides Joint Venture towards achieving these opportunities
  • Ensures formalised position descriptions, KPI’s and development plans are in place for all staff; effectively counsels and evaluates the performance of team members and provides for their professional development and career growth; ensures all team members are effectively contributing to the joint venture

Qualifications:

  • Strong technical and analytical accounting skills, specifically in the areas of financial modelling, analysis and reporting
  • Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience
  • Joint venture operating agreement knowledge is required
  • Capital, operating and G&A budgeting and forecasting experience
  • Industry Specific Experience:
  • Engineering and construction project knowledge
  • Consulting projects/processes knowledge a plus
  • Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
  • Bachelor of Commerce/Management degree, professional accounting designation desirable
  • Expert technical understanding of GAAP/ IFRS; maintains the highest professional ethics and standards
  • Familiar with ERP and BI environments, specifically Oracle and Hyperion a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills
