Business Development Director, Offshore Wind

Position: Perm

Location: 100% Remote; NE USA preferred

Travel: Must be willing to travel across NE US region

Role purpose: To gain growth in the US offshore wind market. This is a dynamic role that will require not only a firm understanding of offshore wind industry, but also a willingness to work differently. As a fast-growing entity within our client’s group, the offshore wind team will be looking to deliver projects using innovative business models and utilizing existing, and developing new, digital solutions and design automation. As they expand into new geographic regions, they are looking for an individual to drive accelerated growth within OSW.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Spearhead business development of offshore wind projects in the US together with a team of subject matter experts and partners

· Gain a new customer base in the US and expand the current offerings with current customers

· Develop offshore wind strategic plans for the US and measure performance against the plan

· Evaluate markets and geographies for offshore wind in the US

· Develop offshore wind business development KPI’s for the US and agree alignment with overall management and global plans

· Successfully gain Consulting, OE, PMC through new large complex EPC/I offshore wind RFI’s/RFP’s and successfully win projects

· Overall management through the proposal phase and Sales Force/CSP ownership and management, Risk setup, Win Plans etc.

· Actively follow-up with the customers and setup regular meetings to identify upcoming scopes

· Ensure our client is part of customer supply chain portals and check regularly for RFI/RFP releases

· Participates in proposal team selection/appointment of key resources for proposals and projects

· Manage all global interfaces for where customers fall across multiple regions and engage other BD personnel in Europe, Asia etc.

· Help in technical and commercial review and assist in negotiation of all major contracts, JV’s, Partnerships etc.

· Aid in contract reviews; ensure minimal requirements are met and management of Special Risks

· Engage with DoA holders to ensure approval of proposal budgets and proposal submission

· Engage in establishing Digital Planning during the proposal phase for the project

· Provide Call Reports and Minutes of Meetings for all customer engagements

· Provide hand-over and support to the execution team once projects are won


· Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management or Equivalent

· Minimum of 5-10 years professional experience in the Offshore Energy and/or Offshore Wind industry (must have at least 2 years of experience in Offshore Wind)

· Proposal delivery/proposal governance experience, including EPC, Lump Sum

· Offshore Wind Farm Development experience with Offshore Substation knowledge

· Strong commercial acumen and experience in alternative commercial contracting models/risk profiles and project scopes/phases

· Experience of successfully engaging with clients, senior management, and other key stakeholders

· Superior communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal

· Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to maintain calm and effective interactions during stressful situations

· Motivational leadership style with ability to develop high performance culture

· Excellent organizational skills demonstrated by clear and effective Management and Executive level reporting that ensures timely action and decision making

· Ability to mitigate risks effectively and proactively through positive decision making

Metrics & KPI’s

· Successful award of US offshore wind projects and targeted revenue

· Development of strategic plans and performance records

· Customer Satisfaction through the proposal phase

· Meet proposal objectives and targets in terms of quality, time, cost, and support personnel engagement

· Documentation of customer engagements, CSP administration, win plans etc.
