Name: Vicki Decker
Title: Recruitment Manager, North America
Region of work: Canada and the USA
Time with company: Since June 2019
What do you do at Energy Resourcing?
For the past 2.5 years, I have had the privilege of growing with Energy Resourcing Group from a Senior Recruiter to the North American Recruitment Manager. I manage a wonderful team of three Senior Recruiters that sit in Canada and the United States.
One of our largest clients is a large international Engineering company who we help with their contingent hiring. We also support clients in the Oil & Gas, Renewable Energy, Mining & Minerals, Chemicals, and EPC industries
My team’s goal is not to just help a client hire but to understand the fundamentals of their organization. We help create solutions that impact their bottom line by identifying, screening, and hiring top talent.

Are you working on any specific projects at the moment?
Energy Resourcing Group is dedicated to their employee’s success and wellbeing. I am on many initiatives with leadership to uncover new and innovative ways to develop our employees and offer a work environment where they feel heard and challenged.
How did you get into your current career?
By complete accident! I answered a newspaper ad in the Houston Chronicle, and faxed my resume to a company 17 years ago. I did not realize that it was a boutique recruitment firm. I started off as a Receptionist and was told 6 months in that I talk a lot. The owner of the firm asked if I wanted to make a career change, and the rest is history. My life as a Recruiter had begun.
What’s the best part of your job?
I like the fact that I am constantly learning. I don’t have to be a master of something, but what I do have to do is have keen listening abilities. I learn a lot from the hiring managers I support and the candidates I place.

What challenges have you had to overcome to get to where you are today?
I think my biggest challenge is the story I tell myself about what I can do or achieve. The fact is, you don’t have to have a fancy degree or come from the right background to be successful. You just need to have pure grit and the willingness to know there are infinite possibilities to do something. You just have to show up for yourself.
Any words of wisdom you live by?
Yes, understand you don’t know everything. You are always learning. Don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions, but when you do be ready to close your mouth and truly listen. Also, accountability can take you far.
What keeps you with Energy Resourcing?
My team that I work with every day. We truly care about each other, and we celebrate each other’s wins. We are a loud office, and if you have ever shared a workspace with us, I apologize. We like to have fun!
What do you like to do outside of work?
My all time favorite thing to do is hang out with my son and go on adventures with him, even though I think I might drive him nuts. I enjoy hiking and surrounding myself in nature. Recently, I have found a passion for weight lifting and strength training. So if I’m not doing Yoga or running in one of our beautiful parks in Houston, I’m in the gym. I also have four lovable and cuddly rescue dogs that bring me pure joy (Rosco, Jax, Bailey, and Juliet). I am a big beliver in rescue don’t buy and have been know to potentially cause traffic jam to catch a dog on the side of the road.
If you hadn’t got into your current career… what would you have become?
My dream was always to become a Marine Biologist and study Humpback Whales in their natural habitat. If you were to ask my mom, she would tell you I would make a good lawyer because I like to argue.
