What do you do at Energy Resourcing?
I’m a Senior Recruitment Specialist in the Perth office, focusing on Contracts, Procurement, and Project Controls. For the past 15 years I’ve been recruiting within these disciplines. I’m really passionate about what I do and love networking within these areas.
How did you get into your current career?
The greatest recruitment cliché of all is most recruiters fall into it, and I was one of them.
Whilst travelling in my early 20’s I met a girl who worked in recruitment. She told me about her job, which I thought sounded quite exciting and diverse. Upon returning to London, an opening came up at her work, and my career started from there.
What’s the best part of your job?
The never-ending love for the match and the reward it brings to both our candidates and clients.
What challenges have you had to overcome to get to where you are today?
Challenges are something which makes us stronger as we overcome them. So I’m happy to tackle them head-on now, this wasn’t always the case!
Early on in my career, I was quite sensitive. I was learning the ropes and not understanding failure, so there were quite a few tears shed!
Recruitment is a tough, challenging, competitive job in which resilience and patience are needed in abundance. Over the years, I’ve definitely toughed up and learned not to take things to heart.
What keeps you at Energy Resourcing?
Recruitment can be quite transient. So many people try it, and many people leave, so working with a team where the average employee has been here for 7 years in this industry is extremely rare.
I work with an incredible team of inclusive, diverse and committed professionals who are always striving for better. Why would I leave!
What do you like to do outside of work?
I’m a Mum of 2 very spirited amazing little girls who keep me more than busy. When I do have time away from them, I love going to festivals and can’t wait for my next. I relax by upcycling furniture.
To completely escape I go horse riding, it’s been my hobby & passion since I was 10, and for me, it’s the best way to switch off from everything.
If you hadn’t got into your current career… What would you have become?
I always knew I was about people interaction. I just wasn’t sure how to fit this into my career. I was interested in being a Social Worker but knew I’d find this personally quite challenging. So when I fell into recruitment, I knew this was perfect for my people fix and to help others!
