Name: Saritha Silvaraju
Title: Senior Accountant
Region: Perth, Australia
Time with company: Since January 2019
What do you do at Energy Resourcing?
I’m a Senior Accountant in the Perth office. My main duties include financial reporting & analysis, budgeting, forecasting and other day-to-day Finance tasks.
Are you working on any specific projects at the moment?

Currently, I am collaborating with my peers from various regions on a commercial modelling project, which I am thoroughly enjoying!
How did you get into your current career?
After working in a couple of property investment firms in Melbourne and Singapore, I was called in for an interview at a recruitment firm as a Finance lead. That’s where my Finance career in the recruitment industry started and 8 years later, I’m still here.
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is being able to interact and work closely with colleagues from all walks of life. I’ve learned so much from each member of the team who come with very different skill sets and experiences.
What challenges have you had to overcome to get to where you are today?
After graduating from university and starting a new job in Melbourne, I had to move back home to Singapore due to unforeseen family circumstances. I could have either felt sorry for myself or make the most out of the time I had with my family and friends in a country full of opportunities. I decided to do the latter before moving back to Australia and I have absolutely no regrets.
Any words of wisdom you live by?
As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry famously said “A goal without a plan is just a wish”. I couldn’t agree more.
What keeps you at Energy Resourcing?

My amazing colleagues! I’ve been working for Energy Resourcing since the day I moved to Perth 3+ years ago. They have been a huge part of my Perth journey.
What do you like to do outside of work?
My husband and I love rock-climbing. We climb indoors at least twice a week and we are hoping to go outdoors once the temperature permits! I also love going to the beach and I’m thankful that Western Australia has a stunning coastline.
If you hadn’t got into your current career… what would you have become?
Back in my younger days, I always thought I was going to be a musician and even had the opportunity to work in a recording studio during one of my school breaks. Who knows, I could’ve been the next Eminem.
What was the last book you read
Atomic Habits by James Clear. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
Film you watched?
I’m currently watching ‘Inventing Anna’ on Netflix.
The last music you listened to?
I usually listen to the Triple M Perth radio station. Not sure what the last song was but they play some great music.
My passion for business improvement drives me in my role!
In my current role, I mostly work with internal stakeholders. I support the team by providing them with relevant insights and data which allows them to make informed decisions.
My strength is being able to show empathy when communicating financial data to stakeholders from various professional backgrounds. Numbers and data are an important part of business decisions and it’s my responsibility to present them in a manner that benefits everyone including non-financial leaders.
Saritha Silvaraju believes that the role of an accountant in this highly competitive business environment is to be a strategic partner to the business rather than a traditional number-cruncher.
