Name: Nancy Yang
Title: Senior Accounting Associate
Region: Houston, Texas
Time with company: Since August 2019
What do you do at Energy Resourcing?
I am a Senior Accounting Associate in the Houston office. My daily duties include accounts receivable, accounts payable and processing contractors’ timecards and expenses.
Are you working on any specific projects at the moment?
I am currently working on transferring files into SharePoint, and re-organising the files, which gives me great sense of achievement. You could say I have some degree of OCD, because I find keeping things organised very rewarding and satisfying

How did you get into your current career?
After being a stay-home mom for 7 years, I returned to the work force via a friend who knew this Japanese company that was opening a Houston office and hiring many different positions. I originally applied for an administration role but landed an accounting job because the accounting manager needed people quickly. I happened to have a little accounting experience in a hotel’s back office prior and he decided to give me a try. That’s how I started working in accounting… totally by chance.
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is to solve problems we run into with the clients or contractors, which happen quite often.
What challenges have you had to overcome to get to where you are today?
The biggest challenge I had was to step out of my comfort zone after being a full-time mom for years. I did not know if I was able to adapt to the rapid changing work environment. Over the years, I have learned how to balance my family and work life. I have also realised any challenge in life is an opportunity to bring out my potential and make me stronger.
Any words of wisdom you live by?
“Choose what you love; Love what you choose.”

What keeps you at Energy Resourcing?
My understanding and thoughtful co-workers and managers, as well as the flexibility in terms of work schedule. Being a mom of 2 school aged kids, having a flexible schedule allows me to participate in my children’s activities. Energy Resourcing is constantly promoting “work life balance”, which I appreciate very much.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy exercising at the gym daily. When I have long weekends or holidays, I love traveling to different cities/states/countries.
If you hadn’t got into your current career… what would you have become?
I would probably have become a tour guide because I have always loved to travel and been very interested in world geography and history.
What was the last book you read
I haven’t read any books for a long time, but the last book I read was Vanishing Acts by Jodi Picoult. I am a big fan of her fiction novels.

Film you watched?
“Tik Tik…BOOM!” on Netflix – a musical drama film directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The last music you listened to?
Playlist of various musicals: Hamilton, In the Heights, The Greatest Showman, Dear Evan Hansen, The Book of Mormon.
Processing transactions accurately and timely drives me in my role!

She wants to ensure contractors have great experience and collaboration with Energy Resourcing.
