What do you do at Energy Resourcing?
I am a Senior Technical Recruiter based out of Calgary, Alberta – ‘the sister city to Houston.’ I recruit technical staff and contractors across North America for oil and gas, energy, mining, and nuclear – so a very large geographical area.
How did you get into your current career?
I was having dinner with a friend and looking for a new opportunity to change careers. My colleague suggested I meet with her manager at Robert Half, as they needed a recruiter for their oil and gas energy sector. I met with the Robert Half team and started one month later!
I have also worked in corporate, which helped me understand the client side as well. I never looked back, as recruitment has so many facets and always offers an opportunity to learn. The most empowering thing you can do is support a candidate through their career journey and help them find a role they love.
Are you working on any specific projects now?
Yes, I’m working on the diversity team to support hiring and identifying diverse candidates as part of the offering for clients. One of the key focuses is indigenous peoples in North America.
What’s the best part of your role?
I have an opportunity to meet with clients and discuss their needs from a strategic sense and identify potential business needs. I never tire of listening to interesting people and the excitement of a good business opportunity.
What is the most challenging part of your role?
I think the talent available in the market in North America and balancing candidate needs; the market is ever-shifting, and clients are seeking cost reductions. Candidates are seeking balance and have many more options and companies to choose from.
Any words of advice for young graduates?
Find your passion, and always be a continuous learner.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I am an avid sports enthusiast. I do love to ski and mountain bike and have the luxury of living close to the mountains. I’m also a massive Formula 1 fan – Team Ferrari is my all-time favourite!
What was the last book you read?
‘Where The Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens.
Film you watched?
I’ve been watching a TV show called ‘Outlander.’

Stevie Ray Vaugh and Amy Winehouse, to name a few!
