Name: Katherine Eriksen
Title: VP Business Development, North America
Region: North America
Time with company: Since June 2015
What do you do at Energy Resourcing?

I’m the VP Business Development, North America
Are you working on any specific projects at the moment?
There are a variety of things that I’m working on; in particular I’m working with our marketing team and our Website partner Talent Hero, to create our new website which we are launching in July this year.
The market is extremely busy right now, we are working hard to support our clients to secure unique, hard to find technical talent.
We are also coming into our last quarter for the year so there is a lot of strategic planning and forecasting happening right now.
How did you get into your current career?

Like many people in recruitment, I ‘fell’ into the industry. I had a background in retail, hospitality and banking prior to going into recruitment. The service industry was a great place to get client-centric experience that helped transition into recruitment. I started as a 360-perm recruiter and loved managing the candidate and client experience. Finding candidates that were a perfect match for my clients and having candidates finding great companies was extremely satisfying. I’m grateful for finding this career so early in my life.
What’s the best part of your job?
It might sound cliché, but the people I work with. I have worked at Energy Resourcing for almost 7 years and have gotten the opportunity to not only work with amazing folks in North America, but also our global colleagues. Travelling to parts of the world that I hadn’t seen before such as Singapore and the U.K.
What challenges have you had to overcome to get to where you are today?
I’ve worked in organizations that were not as inclusive or engaging and I’ve had to learn how to manage the political landscape in many situations. I’ve also had to learn to take things personally over the years. It’s difficult to make everyone happy in this business. When you have to manage clients and candidate’s expectations it can be very challenging and stressful.
Any words of wisdom you live by?

I’ve learned that I can’t always make everyone happy, but being open, honest and transparent is the best way to create long lasting, meaningful relationships.
I’ve learned that it’s not important to have all the answers or know everything in order to take on new challenges. I’ve learned a lot in this business because someone saw potential in me and gave me the opportunity to make mistakes and learn along the way.
What keeps you at Energy Resourcing?
The people and the opportunity for ongoing career development.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I recently moved to Penticton, British Columbia last year so I’ve been enjoying sight-seeing, going to Skaha Lake, and checking out the wineries in the area. I recently joined a Musical Theatre group and will be performing a live radio play this year.
If you hadn’t got into your current career… what would you have become?

Most likely a Life Coach, Psychologist or Forensic Investigator. I have a genuine interest in people and what makes us ‘tick’
