What do you do at Energy Resourcing?
I am a CMS Administrator working with the Energy Resourcing Europe team, mainly focusing on Sweden. I’ve also temporarily taken on the Global Agility role as well. I’m based in Kungälv in our Sweden office.
How did you get into your current career?
I started off in Finance, and although I was moving forward in my career, I felt it wasn’t my true calling. I received a lot of feedback from past bosses that I’m very good with people. A position opened up in one of the previous companies I worked for in Human Resources, specifically in Learning & Development. I applied and got the position. After that, I got the opportunity to work in Learning & Development, Recruitment, Talent Engagement and a bit in HR Operations as well.
Are you working on any specific projects at the moment?
Personally, I just finished my MBA this year, so I’m taking a pause from studying. Professionally, I’m working on few projects at the moment. I’ve temporarily taken over a Global Agility role, so I’m focusing on learning as much as I can.
What’s the best part of your role?
I think it’s the people that I work with. Although most of my team members are in different countries, I feel that they are all a fun bunch. I also like to meet new people and help them in their journey through the company.
What is the most challenging part of your role?
It can be a bit overwhelming sometimes, but it is always nice to have a good support structure around you to assist when you need help.
Any words of advice to young graduates?
Make as many mistakes as you can at the start of your career and learn from them. As your career progresses, you’ll learn that time is the most valuable and scarce commodity. And the best way to improve your leadership skills is to watch the leaders around you. Observe the things they do well and things they need to improve on. Practice the good things you observed and avoid the other.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love to cook. A few years ago, I started to up my game in Sri Lankan cuisine! I also love to bake and make fancy cakes and deserts.
What was the last book you read?
‘The Silence of the Lambs.’ I found the book in my library recently and wanted to read it.
Film you watched?
I’m a big fan of Christopher Nolan movies. My preferred movie category is psychological thrillers. Movies I can watch on repeat are Silence of the Lambs, Inception, Interstellar, Pulp Fiction, Devil’s Advocate, Big Short, and World War Z (such a random list!) to name a few.
Music you listened to?
I’m a huge 90s alternative and grunge fan. So, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Live, Foo Fighters, Silverchair, etc. are some favourites.
