Name: Alicja Drazkiewicz

Title: European Management Accountant

Region: Cologne, Germany

Time with company: Since May 2022

What do you do at Energy Resourcing?

I work in finance in Germany. I look after Germany, Netherlands and Sweden at monthend, through reporting, payroll and processing invoices. I am also involved in projects like pricing calculators in different countries to support our commercial team.

How did you get into your current career?

In 2012 I moved from Poland to the UK, where I started working as an account assistant for an American engineering company. Whilst slowly doing my qualification, I was changing jobs but remained in the engineering field. In 2015 I started working as an assistant financial accountant in Germany for a medical company, where I took responsibility for multiple entities via reporting. My next big step was working for one of the biggest engineering recruitment companies in the UK, where I was working as a Management Accountant and then as a Business Planning Analyst. In 2022, my family and I decided to change our lives and move to Germany. I got a job with ER in May.

Are you working on any specific projects at the moment?

My role is based on monthly reporting and making sure there will not be any surprises! Its hard to say about any projects, but we will soon be working to improve our payroll processes, as the business is growing.

What’s the best part of your role?

The best part of my role is that I can plan, and I know what I should expect. However, there are some things which can surprise me, so I don’t always know what the day might bring or what my challenges will be. Whats great is to have a team which supports me and works well together.

What is the most challenging part of your role?

I think the most challenging part is working under stress. Where you rely on someone else, work and being the last in a chain to provide information can be challenging.

Any words of advice for young graduates?

For a young graduate, I would say just try. Do not regret it if something doesn’t work out. I would say to find a good place to gain experience and not be afraid of asking questions and sharing your ideas with senior managers. Believe in yourself!

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I spend time with my family my husband and three-and-a-half years old daughter, and the dog. We are trying to spend our time actively in the summer, travelling to different countries or places, and exploring new things. And we are trying to visit our friends who are all over the world.

What was the last book you read?

Most of the time I read children’s books to my daughter in the evening. One that I read again recently was Winnie the Pooh. Its a good book to remained yourself what is most important in life.

Film you watched?

The last film I watched was Ticket to Paradise. Its a good movie for a weekend evening when you want to relax and watch a good actor in a beautiful place with a little bit of humour.

Music you listened to?

I mostly listen to the radio. But my favourite music is rock from the 90s with good lyrics.
